Omar Jewelers, a family owned business founded by Arif Mahmood and his wife Maria Mahmood. Born in Pakistan, Arif Mahmood had the blood of a jeweler, growing up watching his cousins crafting and designing gold, he knew this was his passion. At age 22, he traveled to Libya and began working as a jeweler, perfecting his craft. In 1981, he moved to New York City, where he landed a job on the 47th st Diamond District, working as gemologist for more than 15 years. On one long bus ride home he met a woman named Maria who would soon enough not only be his partner in life but his business partner as well. Maria was from Italy and happened to be staying in the U.S as a tourist. Years went on, they wrote love letters oceans apart, and she eventually came back to New York to become Arif’s wife. They married and opened two jewelry stores; located in Staten Island and Jackson Heights NY, where they have been serving the community for more than 20 years. The foundation of our jewelry is built on a New York City love story. With Arif’s South Asian & Middle Eastern design experience and Maria’s Euro-Italian influence, they have created an unrivaled collection.
